Dedicated to rehoming pets and supporting local animals.
At the Humane Society or Wright County, Iowa, we are dedicated to care and rehoming pets from our local area.
Our mission is to ensure the health and welfare of stray, abandoned, and community animals through compassionate care and support.
Thank you to Don, Connie, and their family for the decades of care and support of animals in our community.

Please reach us at wrightcountydogs@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
1. Find an animal you want to meet on our Petfinder site- please contact us to confirm the animal is still available.
2. Set up a time for a meet and greet to see if it is a good fit for both you and for the animal.
3. While you are there, you can fill out an adoption application with some basic contact information and your commitment to care for the adopted pet.
4. If the meeting goes well, you can take the animal home with you that day.
Our adoption fees are donation based and vary depending on the animal and their medical needs. Typically, most people give around $125 to adopt a dog, which covers the vet intake bill + spay or neuter.
We appreciate community members who keep an eye out for lost or abandoned animals. If you find a stray animal, it's best to:
1) POST IT on your personal social media! Most owners are looking for their lost fur babies and happy to reunite with them. We are lucky to have a close knit rural community- your neighbors might recognize the animal...
2. SEND US A PHOTO AND DESCRIPTION of the animal- we will "courtesy post" to our network of vets, volunteers, and on our social media.
3. TAKE THE ANIMAL TO THE CLOSEST VET for evaluation of any injuries and to scan the animal for a microchip. The local vets will contact us if the animal needs long term boarding.
Sometimes life changes happen and you might need to surrender or otherwise rehome your pet.
We only accept animals from the Wright County, Iowa area so please make sure you are a Wright County resident or reach out to the local shelter in your area.
It's best for any animal to minimize changes in their environment, so before you surrender to our shelter we request you:
1) POST IT on your personal social media- letting your network know you have an animal to rehome might find a new family for your pet faster than you thought!
2. SEND US A PHOTO AND DESCRIPTION of the animal- we will "courtesy post" to our network of vets, volunteers, and on our social media. We can list on Petfinder as "owner adoption"- details like personality notes, if they are good with kids/other animals, or have training will all help an adoption happen.
3. GATHER VET RECORDS or medical history you have on your pet- at a minimum we require a rabies vaccine before intake so it is safe for our volunteers to engage with the animal.
4. CONTACT US to arrange for intake- please note that accepting any animal to our shelter is at the discretion of the caretakers who prioritize safety of the handlers and other animals in our care. We have limited capacity / animal runs so cannot always intake new animals.
We regularly need fosters- temporary caregivers- for animals that need a bit more attention to thrive while they wait for their new homes. Fosters are provided with food, supplies, and vet care as needed.
Fosters needed for:
1) Dogs who need to be indoors - because they don't have winter coats, or maybe aren't adjusted to outdoor life.
2) Expectant cat mothers. Every year we have multiple expectant mothers who find their way to our shelter - but what she really needs is a cozy place to give birth to a new family! We try to find them a foster with a garage or barn where they will have a dedicated space and more attention than we can provide at the regular shelter facilities. This helps the (kittens) be more accustomed to people and to being handled-- which makes them easier to adopt out. All mommas and babies recieve vaccination/spay/neuter before they are adopted.
Our non profit uses 100% of donations for the care of our animals in the shelter and in the community.
If you'd like to donate (non perishable) supplies, we have a donation box in the back parking lot of Johnson Law Firm in Eagle Grove- 216 N Commercial Ave, Eagle Grove, IA 50533. Look for the box that says "Humane Society!"
If you have perishable supplies like fresh food, please contact one of our volunteers to coordinate a drop off.
Your contribution will allow us to provide food, shelter, and medical care for the animals in our care. Every little bit helps!
